We are led by a former staff attorney for the fearless
consumer advocates at The Foundation for Taxpayer and
Consumer Rights, our office provides aggressive litigation
assistance to those who find themselves navigating a
legal system in which large corporate litigants enjoy
immense advantages. Our goal is to level the judicial
playing field for those who might otherwise be taken
advantage of by powerful corporate litigants and their
high-priced attorneys.

Lawrence Markey, has seen the justice system from
the eyes of large, powerful corporations, and from
the perspective of the little guy. As an attorney
with a prominent, New York-based corporate law firm,
Mr. Markey learned how large corporations and insurance
companies use their size to their advantage in legal
disputes. Along the way, however, he also learned
the legal tactics that individuals and small businesses
can use to combat those advantages, and create a level
playing field in court.
Later, as a staff attorney for The Foundation for
Taxpayer and Consumer Rights, Mr. Markey represented
California consumers in cases brought against insurance
companies violating consumer protection laws, junk
fax broadcasters violating federal privacy laws, and
a wide range of consumer abuses in the telecom, insurance
and health care industries. Mr. Markey’s efforts
at the FTCR resulted in savings to consumers of over
$200 million in insurance premiums. Additionally,
Mr. Markey has been cited in the New York Times, Washington
Post, and other major news outlets concerning his
fight against junk faxes.
Even as a law student, Mr. Markey was bringing lawsuits
on his own, and collecting on judgments against junk
fax broadcasters who bombarded his home fax machine.
He became one of the few consumers to collect a judgment
against the nation's worst junk faxer, Fax.com. Mr.
Markey later testified against a Fax.com Vice President
on behalf of the California Attorney General in a
regulatory proceeding, which stripped that executive
of his license to practice as a private investigator.
Mr. Markey is a non-practicing Certified Public Accountant,
and was previously employed by the CPA firm of Deloitte
& Touche, LLP. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from
the University of Southern California in 1993 and
received his law degree from Michigan Law School in
2002.
